Hailed by critics and fans alike as one of the finest songwriters of his generations, Dean Friedman has achieved legendary, pop-icon status for chart-topping hits Ariel, Lucky Stars, Lydia, McDonald's Girl and more.
Following Friedman's sold-out, 40th Anniversary Tour, Friedman returns to the stage armed with a stunning collection of his insightful and compelling, true-to-life 'story songs' - songs of pathos and humour that deal with family, friends, neighbours, work and the seemingly trivial, yet ultimately essential stuff of everyday life.
"Soundtrack of our lives!" - NYTimes; "Songsmith extraordinaire!" - MusicWeek; "Dean Friedman is entirely unique and utterly brilliant" - ThreeWeeks; "Stunning Musicianship!" - Hot Press
In addition to his familiar radio hits, album releases and touring Friedman composes and produces music soundtracks for TV and film, including the music to the hit Central TV series BOON, NBC's Eerie Indiana, Nickelodeon's Nick Arcade and the indie horror classic, 'I Bought a Vampire Motorcycle'. He's also published a respected tome on the art and craft of song-writing entitled, 'The Songwriter's Handbook', based on song-writing workshops and song-writing masterclasses he's conducted at universities and music conservatories around the world, including LIPA (the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts).
A consummate entertainer, Friedman will be performing solo, on guitar and keyboard, featuring songs from throughout his four-decade career, including familiar, radio hits and fan favourites, drawn from his eight studio albums. Invite family and friends and join Friedman for an evening of powerful, poignant and hilarious songs about the ordinary, and extraordinary, lives we share.
Supported by Barbara, a delightfully bold and inspired music project of Henry and John Tydeman, two charismatic brothers from Brighton and Hove. Bucking the current music trends of hip hop, dancepop, 80s revival, EDM and post punk, their sunny, uplifting sound is a charming and anachronistic blend of – in their own words – “a bit of 70s US AM radio, a dash of English music hall, the effortless catchiness of a Broadway musical, a sprinkling of sequined power pop, luscious Disney strings and glorious golden harmonies.” The musical result is disarmingly joyful. And their unique and engaging sound has led to sold-out tours as a band, in support of major acts including Haircut 100 and Paul Weller.
